400 Years Celebration, May 1606-2006

Six young people team up with Wendy Himford of Himford Farea, to join the celebrations in Santo of the 400 Years since Spanish explorer De Quiroz discovered and declared the islands The Great South Land of the Holy Spirit. Read on and see pictures below...

The team was made up of three males: Paul, Fred and Jack, and 3 females: Janet, Alison and Leimata. They traveled to the Northern Island by MV Belsat on Friday night the 12th. They arrived a little after midday on Saturday. Ms Himford picked them up and dropped them at their lodge.

A march organized by the body of pastors unity in Santo, headed by Ps Ray of the Christian Mission Center, was scheduled Saturday afternoon. The team prepared themselves and joined the march. There were a lot of overseas friends, many from Australia, who held colorful flags and sang songs as they marched from the police station towards Unity Park. The Port Vila team also drew their banner and flags that they had brought from Vila.

There was a big crusade that Saturday night at Unity Park, straight after the march. This saw a lot of items by many youth groups from Luganville. The  highlight of that night was the dancing of the colorful flags - in the photo shots, they appeared like flames of fire!.
