Easter
Follow-up Mission, March 2005
The
young people from Youth Arise Vanuatu decided to follow-up on the
outreach efforts done previously in some of the
islands, like Makira, Nguna, Epi, Emae, and Emau. So during the Easter
weekend, four groups were formed to carry out this important work - a
first ever for almost all members. The composition of groups depended on
funds: Four for Epi, four for Makira, five for Emae, and about twenty
for Nguna.
A
fund-raising was carried out by the young people on the weekend before
Easter, to raise funds towards this project. The funds were then proportionately distributed to the four teams.
The team for Emae could not make it, as the boat they had booked had
engine probles in Epi. Read sample reports and
view some photos below of this follow-up missions and be blessed, but these
young people have been changed for good...

Nguna
Team
[Janet,
Mollie, Nobert, Steve K, Ian K, Selwyn, Stephane, Robson,
Alison, Pate, Thomson, Leipakoa, Rossie, Tima I, Founda I]
Twenty-plus
young people joined forces to form a strong team to impact the
Easter program at Unakap village in Nguna. The Easter program
had already been set by the island, and this team planned to be
busy meeting up with and talking with a lot of other young
people who were going to be present
Janet
commanded the team, as they boarded MV Sarafenua from the
Port Vila wharf on
Easter Thursday. The team composed of mature veterans, to
not-so-mature, and even those who were there just for the fun of
it.
Janet
was MC most of the time, and Ian was busy behind the scenes
managing the logistics. Members of the team were asked by the
Easter program committee to lead the teams that were distributed
into various churches that Easter Sunday morning, some of them
preaching for the first time. The team had such an impact that
some of the young people decided to join Youth Arise - the likes
of Danken Hinge (COC) and Joel from Erakor.

Epi Team
[Rina
Alau, Roger Maurice, Agnes Kalwatman, Fred Kanatoto]
Roger
and Agnes left a week early by MV El Ketty. Their boat had engine
problem outside of Epi and drifted for three days and two nights before making it
to Mabfilau. Fred and Rina went by plane on Easter Friday to
join the two.
Agnes
had to lead worship in some of the services too - she had to, there was no choice! But
she did a wonderful job, and she did not believe it. During the
day, Roger and Fred ran some Bible studies, and the team went
from house-to-house to share the Word and pray for needy people.
During the night, crusades were held which encouraged a lot of
the young people from the island, especially Mabfilau youth, to
put on some items.
Roger
also showed the movie, "Passion of the Christ", which
saw a lot of mothers and fathers, and even children shedding
tears.
The
team was based in Mabfilau village but also visited Niu Ples and Bokovio..

Makira
Team
[Marie
Fred, Seima Mansale, Jonathan Yona]
Four
young people were chosen to go to Makira but only three made it.
Marie
and Seima left by plane on Wednesday Holy week for Emae, then by
boat across to Makira. Jonathan, because of work commitment,
went two days later by plane, then by boat to Makira.
The
two youth groups, New Covenant and Presbyterian church combined
for the opening of the Easter program on Wednesday evening.
Their theme was, "Giving is receiving".
The
program included Bible study, one hour prayer sessions between
studies, prayer-walks, kids games, old people's visitation,
camp-fire, candle-light march and of course, kaekae (food,
yummy). Bible studies included Prayer and fasting, and Offerings
and Tithes. The camp-fire was not possible as the fire-wood
for the fire was wet. Instead, Marie came up with the
candle-light march. Everyone had a lighted candle each, and
marched silently towards a finishing point. At the end of the
march, they formed a huge circle, and volunteers went into the
middle of the circle to share their experiences of God's
goodness.
