Youth Arise Sports Fundraising, July 2005

It could have been a sports revival. There were so many teams wanting to register, that by 9am teams were still coming. The committee had to stop the registration, otherwise it would take three days to get to the finals.  Read more stories below and view the slide show...

This was a planned fundraising event for the Interchurch youth. A working committee was formed to idea the details. So headed by the most creative and innovative young man around, Ian Kalsuak, the committee thought up the idea of a sports day fundraising.

Letters were posted to youth groups, both inside and outside the church, to come support the fundraising. Business companies were approached to sponsor the prices. Pretige Motor and Laho Limited gave positive reply to the trophies. There were enough prices for  three winners each for three sports - volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Talk about favor!

The day started off as usual - by 8 am, the field was still empty. The committee decided to kick start the program with a game of soccer just to attract more teams. Once this started, more teams were coming in to register. Jonathan at the registration table and with the sound system close by, things seemed to be going as planned. Each team had to pay a registration fee of 700 vatu. But then the registrations had to be stopped.

In the end 19 teams altogether registered for soccer, who were divided into two pools. Basketball and volleyball were also going on successfully. At the end of the day, while darkness was fast approaching, trophies and other prices were presented with the lights provided by the high beam of a pick up truck.

The success of this day made us think about making this an annual event for Youth Arise. But glory be to God....His favor is really upon these young people.
